Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter – When to Pressure Wash My House?

Some questions have and require a definitive answer, and some not so much. What finish of paint should I use in my bathroom or on the exterior of my home? Hint: definitely not flat. Should I have brush finished concrete in my home garage? Probably not.

So, what season is best for softwashing or pressure washing my Chattanooga home? This will depend on the following considerations: How much of a deal hunter are you? How much pollen do you notice on your home in the spring and how much does it bother you? How cold are winters in your area?

What Season is Best for Softwashing My Home in Chattanooga, TN?

Do you like a deal? Most folks tend to have exterior cleaning done during warmer months. Maybe it’s because a lot of us don’t have a home maintenance budget and spend our extra cash on gifts and travel around the holidays. Or maybe it’s because we can’t imagine someone offering a water-related service when it’s jacket weather outside. Whatever the reason, the colder months tend to be slower for exterior cleaning companies, and you may be able to negotiate a better price during this time.

Here in the southeast US we know about pollen. Some years it piles up on our vehicles and homes like snow- well, maybe not that bad, but you know what I’m talking about. A lot of people Hate this menace and must have their home cleaned promptly in mid-May each year when the pollen has mostly finished doing its thing. The end of spring or beginning of summer is a perfectly acceptable time for a softwash or home pressure washing.

Consider Pollen and Temperature

In my view there are only a couple factors that ought to deter you from having your house washed at certain times of year, but I’ll also say that these will be subjective to you as a homeowner- as long as water isn’t freezing when sprayed onto your home, there’s no wrong time to have it washed. So, here are the two possible negative factors I’d have you consider: How important is pollen to you? And, how cold is it outside? If your home is surrounded by trees that produce a lot of pollen and this bothers you, you probably want to have your home softwashed sometime between May- December in order to get the most bang for your buck as this will give you 3-7 months of a pollen free home exterior. Then, concerning the cold, the main chemical used for softwashing (Sodium Hypochlorite) tends to be less effective in breaking down algae in temperatures under 45 degrees. So, if visible algae is your reason for getting a softwash, the most effective time will be when temperatures are over 45 degrees fahrenheit. Luckily for the Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia region, this is most of the year.

So, barring the reasons given above, getting your home softwashed or pressure washed could be a year-round service option for you.
